Jason Mitchell, the actor best known for his work in Straight Outta Compton and the Showtime series The Chi, was arrested this week.
TMZ is reporting that the 33-year-old actor was arrested in Mississippi on felony weapons and drug charges.
Jason is facing four felony charges: “two felony charges for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, plus two more felony charges for possession of a weapon by a felon.”
Cops say that Jason was stopped at a traffic stop and that he was in possession of two pounds of marijuana and 1,300 doses of MDMA. They believe that it was packaged in a way that showed the drugs were for distribution.
Jason‘s rep avoided the topic while speaking out in a statement. The rep said, “Jason is at home with his family right now, working on an amazing new project. News stories move fast and oftentimes without all of the facts. This misunderstanding will be resolved shortly. We trust that the court systems blind justice will protect Jason‘s rights and allow him to tell his story.”
Last year, Jason was fired from his show The Chi after being accused of inappropriate behavior on set. He was also dropped by his agent and manager, and he also lost the lead role in a Netflix film.
